Laura Marr

BA(Hons) DipArch ARB RIBA

Director

Laura is the founder of MARR Architects. She is a chartered architect with 25 years’ experience in award‑winning London practices, bringing together design leadership, technical delivery and a collaborative approach to shaping projects that are both imaginative and achievable.

Her career began at Pentagram and Matthew Lloyd Architects, where she developed a strong foundation in design, communication and contemporary contextual architecture. She went on to spend 12 years at Edward Cullinan Architects, where she was a director working closely with RIBA Gold Medallist Ted Cullinan on pioneering projects across education, culture, housing and masterplanning. During this time she led the design and delivery of schools and housing projects from inception to completion, contributed to practice‑wide design review, and spoke widely on design.

A move to Pollard Thomas Edwards saw her become an associate, leading teams on the technical design and delivery of large, complex residential‑led regeneration projects. Her work included the successful completion of over 1,000 homes on former industrial sites in London, creating new neighbourhoods, and the delivery of the UK’s largest new‑build primary school.

Teaching and mentoring have also been an important part of her practice. Laura has contributed as a visiting design tutor, critic and lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast and the Universities of Bath, Plymouth, East London and Cambridge. She has mentored RIBA Part 3 students for many years and established the student mentoring programme at Pollard Thomas Edwards.

Alongside private practice, she works at Transport for London as a senior architect/engineer, reviewing proposals for heritage station upgrades and developing in‑house design work.

Among her self‑build projects is Front Line House, a domestic remodelling longlisted for Don’t Move, Improve! 2017.

She is a registered RIBA Client Adviser specialising in houses, housing and schools, and was elected to RIBA Council (Worldwide) from September 2025, where she contributes to Council and the Cultural, Knowledge and Outreach Committee.

Laura remains driven by the belief that architecture should improve quality of life and wellbeing through thoughtful, context‑responsive design.
